Hi, I m a transport engineer working in London, since last year. I was very easy to find a job, in my area. However I have a friend that was a site manager abroad England and now is strugling to find a job in the area.
He was 3 years of experience as a site manager in Portugal, but now is being to difficult to find a job in London.
Can you give some advice?? Is the market closed to foreigners, why is so difficult to work on site?? Could you give some tips
I would be gratefull. Just to undestand waht the constructions companies are looking where.
Thanks
Catarina

Hi Catarina,

First of all, congratulation for the job and for having the opportunity to work in the UK. Very Happy

I have a lot of friends who are also struggling to find work on site and most of them are British. The advantage for your friend is that he has another education background than Engineers in the UK and speaks more than one language.

My advice would be to concentrate on international construction joint ventures (UK/European Companies) or foreign companies working in your area. A lot of jobs are only to be found through recruitment agencies in the UK. These agencies are also recruiting overseas. Exclamation

Else, the question is whether your friend is willing to return to Portugal or Spain, perhaps Latin America?

I am currently working in Ireland as a Project Manager in the housing business. I am coming from India and I had no problems to find a job, so I do not think that being a foreigner in the UK/Ireland is a discrimination factor. Wink

Regards,
Protab
